Nothing worse than getting hurt by the aligator join if you touch it by mistake. use raisins on the belt to keep it sticky and put a cover on it. On the apron,is there a dial? it's for thread cutting but will also turn if the compound slide is engaged so you can bring the tool back to a start position. The compound slide is driven from the power shaft and there should be a small wheel to engage it. Nice machine! but it takes a real craftsmen (turner is the correct name) to turn something to a workman like tolernace.
ATLAS LATHE CRAIGSLIST MANUAL
Hopefully we will remember to be safe and cautious.Īlmost forgot, the lathe cross feed is manual no power, but it does have a taper guide for up to 12 deg either direction and a reverse motor and main power feed. Maybe pick up a book on basic lathe funtion or a video etc.
We know a guy thats pretty good with lathes and we'll see if we can find the manual somewhere. Thats why we kept searching until we came across this P&W lathe. We looked at a few of the SB lathes and even those looked a little too light duty to be honest, but they are better. Personally I would look for a 9" South Bend lathe as a minimum lathe. They are actually really small in size and construction. The ones we looked at looked almost like toys. From reading on some forums the Craftsman and Atlas lathes are so light the beds flex. They don't consider those real lathes because they are small and very light duty. Some of the machine forums won't allow you to even ask questions let alone post pictures of those smaller Craftsman or Atlas lathes. We researched a lot and looked at plenty of used equipment.
